Dispatch Go to Top
Starting in the summer of 2004, the Calumet City Fire Department will be dispatched by the Orland Central Dispatch Center. This change will improve the services by adding emergency medical dispatchers to answer your 911 emergency calls. The dispatcher, many who are off-duty paramedics, will give advice and direction to the caller prior to the arrival of EMS or fire personnel. This will provide the caller with valuable information to provide supportive care to the sick or injured person.

Fire Investigators Go to Top
The Calumet City Fire Department takes an active roll in investigating the cause of all fires within its jurisdiction. The fire and arson investigators along with the members of the Calumet City Police Departments Investigation Units work together to see that all fire investigations are completed to a successful end. The fire department currently has 46 members that are fire or arson investigators.

Fire Prevention Go to Top
The Calumet City Fire Department runs fire prevention programs throughout the year to educate the public on the dangers of fire and what to do if an emergency arises. The focus is primarily to educate the children of the community, but from time to time other programs are offered. Much of the training is done with the utilization of the departmentıs safety trailer, operated by members of CCFD since 2002. Be sure to look for the safety trailer at special events in the City throughout the year.

Gear Go to Top
New firefighting gear has been purchased for all members of the fire department. Over the years the old gear has become worn, presenting a safety hazard to our firefighters. The new gear will provide firefighters with the latest safety and comfort available on the market today. The gear will not only address concerns from exposure to heat and flame, but also the dangers of heat exhaustion due to excessive heat retention.

Station Two Go to Top
Recently an addition to our fire station #2 was completed. This allowed all vehicles to be parked inside. Much needed space for additional personnel and office space was also implemented. Plans are in the works to further enhance the addition by finishing the outside landscaping to make the building more attractive to the public.

What's Hot Go to Top
The department's "Scotty's Fire Safety Trailer" is available to visit schools and businesses to help the public understand the dangers of fire and severe weather using theatrical smoke and a custom sound system. This is the first trailer in the south suburbs available to teach severe storm safety. Please call the Fire Department for information on availability.

The thermal imaging cameras continue to be used with great success by the department. These cameras allow firefighters to rescue trapped civilians or firefighters by seeing through smoke. They also provide a view of hidden fire which may flare up without warning. The cameras have the ability to remotely send the view to a television screen for recording or viewing by the incident commander.

The Calumet City Fire Department is currently equipping our squad with the needed supplies to respond to Haz-Mat emergencies. This squad responds to incidents in our City as well as incidents in surrounding communities.
